Medlock Partners are delighted to be partnering our client, a recently acquired SME service business, based in South Manchester, as they look to appoint an experienced Finance Manager in a newly created role.

Reporting directly into the Group Finance Director (based off site) and managing a small finance function, the Finance Manager will take full responsibility for the financial reporting activities for the site, implementing robust financial controls and supporting the wider business and operations with strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day finance operations including purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll and cash flow management.
  • Manage month-end and year-end processes, producing accurate management accounts and financial reports.
  • Monitor stock levels, parts usage, and associated costs, ensuring accurate valuation and reporting.
  • Develop controls around purchasing, stock, and supplier management to minimise waste and improve efficiency.
  • Support budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and tax obligations, including VAT returns.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and other external partners.
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making at senior level.
  • Oversee and support any finance/administration team members.
About You
  • CIMA/ACCA Qualified, with strong all-round finance experience.
  • Previous experience in a stock or parts-based industry (e.g., engineering, automotive, construction, manufacturing, or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting systems Eg, Sage would be an advantage).
  • Comfortable working in an SME environment—hands-on, proactive, and able to turn your hand to everything from detail-level bookkeeping through to board-level reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, able to liaise confidently across the business.

The ideal candidate will be a hands on, experienced Finance Manager who can demonstrate a proven track record of managing a finance function, implementing strong financial controls and working towards strict deadlines in either a SME Manufacturing or stock related industry. Candidates operating at Senior Management Accountant level will also be considered with relevant industry exposure

You will join the business amidst an significant period of transition, integrating the business fully within the group and providing clarity on financial performance.

The successful candidate will enjoy full autonomy in this role however, will also benefit from a group structure and be in a unique position that blends independence with valuable resources and support from the wider business.
