Internal Controls Accountant
Based in Manchester City
5 days a week on site, Monday - Friday
Paying up to £55k DOE
We are looking for a qualified Internal Controls Accountant to join our client's Group Finance team. This role plays a key part in strengthening and embedding a robust financial control environment, helping to ensure controls are compliant, effective, and fit for purpose as the organisation continues to grow.
Working closely with the Head of Financial Reporting & Controls, you will be involved in documenting, testing and reviewing financial controls, supporting statutory reporting, and helping navigate the annual external audit process.
The roleAs a core member of Group Finance, you will:
- Document and maintain the Group's financial control risk register, covering all areas of financial management, including taxation.
- Support the onboarding of subsidiary finance teams into the Group's control framework.
- Deliver a rolling programme of control testing and reviews, identifying opportunities to strengthen and improve the control environment.
- Report clearly and effectively to senior management on control effectiveness, findings and recommendations.
- Work collaboratively across teams to promote best practice in financial controls.
- Provide input into systems development projects, with a focus on financial reporting, KPIs and control requirements.
- Support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and assist with the external audit process.
You will be a qualified accountant with a strong interest in financial controls, governance and risk. You will bring a structured, detail-focused approach and be comfortable working to tight deadlines in a Group environment.
You will ideally have:
- Solid knowledge of financial control frameworks and control testing.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- The ability to organise and prioritise workload in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills (Power BI experience is an advantage but not essential).
- Confident communication skills, with the ability to engage constructively with stakeholders across the Group and produce clear, concise written reports.
