Audit & Compliance Working Group Member (Voluntary Role)

Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation

The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation is seeking an experienced and detail focused Audit & Compliance Working Group Member to provide independent oversight, expert scrutiny and objective challenge across our financial governance, audit activity and risk management processes. This voluntary role plays a critical part in ensuring the Foundation operates with integrity, transparency and full compliance within a regulated charity environment.

As a member of the Audit & Compliance Working Group, you will support the Foundation in maintaining strong internal controls, effective audit processes and robust risk management. You will review financial information, assess governance practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of our control environment. Your insight will help ensure the Board of Trustees meets its oversight responsibilities and that Stop Hunger remains compliant, accountable and aligned with its charitable purpose.

Responsibilities
  • Review financial statements, internal controls and governance processes to ensure accuracy, transparency and compliance.
  • Scrutinise external audit plans, reports and management responses, offering informed challenge to strengthen audit outcomes.
  • Oversee and contribute to the development and monitoring of the Foundation's risk registers and mitigation actions.
  • Provide independent advice and recommendations to enhance governance effectiveness and promote a strong control environment.
  • Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations, ensuring timely follow through and accountability.
  • Uphold independence, objectivity and integrity in all activities, ensuring alignment with Stop Hunger's mission and ethical standards.
  • Prepare thoroughly for scheduled meetings and contribute constructively to discussions and decision making.
  • Participate in ad hoc consultations related to audit, compliance or governance as required.
Context & Key Challenges
  • Operating within a regulated charity environment governed by Charity Commission expectations, financial reporting standards and Stop Hunger's internal governance policies.
  • Analyzing complex financial information, audit findings and risk data to identify gaps, emerging risks and areas for improvement.
  • Providing independent challenge while maintaining constructive relationships with Trustees, auditors and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Upholding high standards of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive financial or governance matters.
  • Supporting a strong internal control environment within a small charity finance model and dual audit requirements.
  • Balancing operational realities with governance expectations to deliver evidence based, transparent recommendations.
Essential
  • Strong financial literacy and understanding of audit processes.
  • Experience in governance, finance, risk management or internal controls.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and provide independent, constructive challenge.
  • High levels of integrity, confidentiality and professional discretion.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Stop Hunger Foundation.
Desirable
  • Experience working within Charity Commission or not for profit regulatory environments.
  • Familiarity with dual audit environments or small charity finance models.
