The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join a dynamic public sector organisation, supporting the delivery of high-quality financial management, reporting and business partnering services.
Working closely with the Financial Controller and key stakeholders across the organisation, you will play a pivotal role in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, financial controls and continuous improvement of finance processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong management accounting experience who enjoys partnering with operational teams and driving financial performance.
Responsibilities- Deliver accurate monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
- Provide finance business partnering support to budget holders and senior managers.
- Produce insightful financial reports, analysis and performance information.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities.
- Maintain robust financial controls, reconciliations and balance sheet integrity.
- Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and payroll processes.
- Support cash management, treasury activities and banking reconciliations.
- Assist with statutory accounts, audit requirements and government reporting.
- Develop and improve financial systems, reporting tools and accounting processes.
- Provide financial advice to stakeholders to support effective decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with public sector financial regulations, policies and governance requirements.
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or CIPFA).
- Previous management accounting experience within a complex organisation.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting experience.
- Excellent Excel and financial systems knowledge.
- Experience producing management information and financial analysis.
- Strong stakeholder management and finance business partnering skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Public sector or local government finance experience.
- Experience improving financial processes and controls.
- Knowledge of treasury, cash management and balance sheet management.
- Experience supporting audits and statutory reporting.
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or CIPFA).
- Hybrid working with flexibility across the North of England.
