Exchequer Technical Officer supporting Manchester City Council’s financial operations by delivering accurate, timely technical support across payments, financial data, receipts, reconciliations and reporting. The role ensures financial processes are carried out correctly, audit trails are maintained, issues are investigated and resolved, and stakeholders receive clear advice. It also contributes to improving systems, policies and ways of working to provide reliable transactional finance services.
Key Responsibilities– Support transactional finance functions including payments, income, banking, reconciliations and reporting.
– Ensure financial transactions are processed accurately and on time.
– Maintain clear audit trails and investigate and resolve issues.
– Advise colleagues and stakeholders on correct processes.
– Contribute to system, policy and process improvements.
- Experience of general ledger reconciliations.
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable experience.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Experience of interrogating and validating financial data.
- Transactional finance experience, including high‑volume processing such as large payment runs.
- Experience using financial systems to process, report and manage financial information.
- Experience carrying out complex financial investigations and reconciliations across large datasets with an understanding of the wider impact on financial accounting.
- AAT Level 3 qualified or equivalent experience in a technical finance role.
