MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in over 40 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

The Finance Analyst (FA) will provide remote finance and analytical support to the MAG Ukraine Programme from the UK. The role will focus on financial analysis, budget monitoring, forecasting, donor and management reporting, data quality and month-end support. Working closely with the Ukraine Finance team and relevant UK colleagues, the FA will help turn financial data into clear information for programme decision-making, identify variances and trends, and support timely follow-up on financial actions.

Since the Russian invasion of 24 February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missile, and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and now employs nearly 440 staff in our Ukraine programme, in a range of operational and support/administrative activities, with further scale-up planned during 2026.

The programme has a representation office in Kyiv, and operational offices in Mykolaiv (also covering accessible areas of Kherson) and Kharkiv.

• Prepare and maintain regular budget versus actual analysis for Ukraine projects, departments and cost centres, highlighting significant variances, trends and areas requiring follow-up.
• Support the preparation and updating of programme forecasts, working with budget holders and the Ukraine Finance team to ensure assumptions are clear, reasonable and supported.
• Assist with monthly management accounts and internal financial reporting, including concise commentary for managers and budget holders.
• Support with budgets for proposals or realignments throughout project periods.
• Support donor financial reporting and grant-management processes, including review of expenditure, coding, supporting schedules and reconciliation to approved budgets.
• Review financial data for completeness, accuracy and consistency, and raise identified issues with the relevant Finance team member or budget holder.
• Develop and maintain clear financial analysis tools, trackers, and Excel-based reports to support programme management and decision-making.
• Assist with project set-up, budget coding and the maintenance of accurate project and donor financial records.
• Provide finance support to budget holders, helping them understand expenditure, forecasts, variances, and financial responsibilities.
• Work closely with the Ukraine Finance team, Programme colleagues and MAG UK Finance to resolve financial queries and improve the quality and timeliness of financial information.
• Provide ad-hoc financial analysis in response to programme priorities, including scenario modelling, cost comparisons, and other management information as required.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with MAG financial policies, procedures, safeguarding requirements and standards of conduct.
