About the Role

We are a growing energy transition infrastructure business operating across a number of projects and assets in the UK.

We are looking for a hands-on Finance professional to join the team and support the day-to-day running of the Finance function, whilst developing an increasing focus on how technology can be used to improve the way Finance operates.

This is a broad role suited to someone at an early stage of their Finance career who has a good grounding in transactional accounting, is confident using technology and enjoys finding better ways of doing things.

You will initially spend the majority of your time supporting core Finance activities, including accounts payable, purchase orders, supplier payments, reconciliations and month-end processes. Over time, you will also become increasingly involved in improving processes, systems, reporting and the use of automation across Finance.

You do not need to be an automation or AI specialist. We are more interested in someone who is comfortable with technology, learns systems quickly and is naturally curious about how processes could be made more efficient.

Key Responsibilities
Finance Operations
  • Support the day-to-day Finance function across the Group.
  • Process supplier invoices and purchase orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and investigate discrepancies.
  • Ensure costs are correctly coded and allocated.
  • Respond to supplier and internal queries relating to invoices, payments and costs.
  • Prepare and support regular supplier payment runs.
  • Process other Group payments and transfers as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
Reconciliations & Month-End
  • Complete regular bank reconciliations and investigate unreconciled items.
  • Process and reconcile employee expenses and company expenditure.
  • Support balance sheet reconciliations and investigate differences.
  • Assist with the month-end close process.
  • Provide accurate transactional information to support financial reporting and cash flow forecasting.
  • Assist with financial analysis and reporting as required.
Project & Asset Accounting
  • Support the accurate tracking and allocation of costs relating to projects and assets.
  • Assist with the review of project expenditure and investigate unusual or incorrect cost allocations.
  • Support the Finance team with site and project-related financial information.
  • Assist with the calculation and validation of relevant project or site costs.
Tax, Compliance & Audit
  • Support VAT and other routine tax compliance activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Prepare supporting information and documentation as required.
  • Ensure Finance processes are completed in line with established controls and policies.

As you develop within the role, you will have the opportunity to become increasingly involved in improving Finance processes and making better use of technology.

This could include:

  • Identifying repetitive or inefficient Finance processes.
  • Suggesting ways to simplify or improve existing processes.
  • Helping to improve the use of Finance and business systems.
  • Improving the flow and quality of financial data between systems.
  • Supporting the development of more efficient workflows and reporting.
  • Using Excel and other digital tools to analyse information and solve problems.
  • Exploring how AI and automation could be used to reduce manual work.
  • Supporting the testing and implementation of new tools or processes.
  • Helping to document and standardise improved ways of working.

Previous experience delivering automation or AI projects is not essential. What is important is that you are comfortable with technology, willing to learn and interested in understanding how systems can be used to make Finance more efficient.

Technology & Digital Capability

We are looking for someone who is confident using technology and enjoys learning new systems.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • Confidence using Microsoft 365, particularly Excel.
  • The ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and financial data.
  • An interest in AI, automation and emerging Finance technology.
  • A willingness to question inefficient processes and suggest improvements.
  • A logical and analytical approach to solving problems.
  • An understanding of the importance of data accuracy, security and financial controls.

Experience with tools such as Power Query, Copilot, AI applications or workflow automation would be…
