The Technical Officer (Benefits Casework) role is crucial for ensuring that Manchester City Council operates to regulatory standards and protects the public purse. You will manage a varied and sometimes complex caseload of reconsiderations and appeals and represent the Council at Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Tribunal hearings.
Tribunal attendance is an essential aspect of the role, although the number of hearings is typically low; staff will be trained and supported.

The Technical Officer (Benefits Casework) Primary Responsibilities- Review Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction decisions and recommend and apply changes where appropriate.
- Write Tribunal Service and Valuation Tribunal Service papers in response to appeals.
- Present cases at Tribunal.
- Feed back on training, process and policy issues relating to guidance.
Staff can access the Council’s Flextime Scheme. Subject to business needs, staff may work from home the majority of the time. Homeworking hours start at 6:00 am and finish at 7:00 pm, with core hours between 11:00 am and 2:30 pm.
Staff have a maximum of two flex leave days per month. Staff will be expected to attend the office for training, team meetings, or as required.
Part‑time flexible working arrangements may be considered.
