Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Assistant Psychologist to work across two rehabilitation settings for individuals with long‑term complex mental health needs. The post is full‑time, with working hours split equally across a High‑Dependency Unit (Copeland Ward, Meadowbrook Unit) and an all‑male Community Rehabilitation/Step‑Down Unit (Bramley Street).
Main Duties- Keep appropriate records, add to patient’s clinical notes and electronic patient information system, and provide written reports of assessment data and clinical intervention as required.
- liaise with other staff of relevant multidisciplinary teams and with Psychology/Mental Health Services and other agencies as appropriate under guidance from the supervising psychologist.
- Under supervision, perform psychological assessments of clients within the inpatient service, assist in the analysis and interpretation of data from various sources (e.g. psychological and neuropsychological tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect observation, interviews) with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
- Assist qualified therapy staff in the delivery of aspects of specialist psychological interventions with complex mental health problems, including work with individuals, families and carers.

- Upper second‑class honours degree (or higher) in Psychology or lower second‑class honours with MSc in Psychology
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
- Experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties
- Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist within the NHS
- Experience working well within a clinical supervised relationship
- Clear understanding of the function of a rehabilitation service
- Awareness of personal versus clinical recovery frameworks
- Knowledge of Trust values
- Excellent interpersonal skills, self‑awareness and empathy in all communications
- Highly self‑motivated, positive attitude and ability to engage and motivate others
- Further training in professional psychology (e.g. Cognitive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing)
- Experience of working within a multi‑disciplinary team
- Awareness of the connection between trauma and psychosis
- Requirement to travel within Greater Manchester to complete clinical work and attend meetings
- Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and with people with mental health difficulties
- Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively
