Position: Peer Support Specialist (Part-Time)

Schedule: Monday–Thursday 1:30 PM–5:30 PM;
Friday 1:30 PM–4:30 PM

Flexible schedule preferred, with potential interest in covering shifts at our Derry location

On the Road to Wellness is a non-clinical, member-driven peer support organization dedicated to supporting adults (18+) in their mental health recovery and wellness journeys. With over 37 years of experience, we provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where members are empowered to define and pursue their own wellness.

Our services emphasize education, communication, meaningful connection, and engaging activities. We remove common barriers to care by offering no-cost transportation and requiring no insurance or identification, ensuring access for all. Community connection, mutual support, and respect are at the core of everything we do.

Position Summary

We are seeking a conscientious, reliable, and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in fostering a strong recovery-oriented community by providing peer-based support, facilitating groups and activities, and engaging members with empathy and respect. The ideal candidate is passionate about mental health recovery, values collaboration, and is comfortable working with diverse individuals and perspectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and facilitate peer support groups, activities, one-to-one support, and outreach efforts
  • Welcome and engage members, guests, and vendors in a manner that supports a recovery-focused community
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain clear communication and effective workflow
  • Accurately complete all required documentation, forms, and reports in a timely manner
  • Address conflicts, complaints, or incidents using peer support principles
  • Attend required meetings and organizational trainings
  • Perform duties in alignment with organizational policies and procedures
Qualifications
  • Be 18 years or older and possess a High School diploma or GED
  • Proven experience as a group facilitator of similar experience
  • Be physically able to perform job-related duties
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to pass a Peer Support Specialist certification course (within 1 year)
  • Knowledge gained by lived experience with the process of recovery from trauma, serious mental illness, and/or co-occurring Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and is willing to self-identify with peers on this basis in the community
  • Peer support experience preferred (paid or unpaid)
