About the roleWe are seeking a motivated and committed Public Health Officer to join our friendly and forward‑thinking Public Health team at North Northamptonshire Council. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of our work on mental health and suicide prevention. You will play a key role in delivering evidence‑based actions from the Suicide Prevention Strategy, while also leading and supporting a broader programme of work to improve mental health and wellbeing across North Northamptonshire.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll help strengthen local partnerships and support coordinated approaches to prevention, early intervention, and improved population mental health.
Contract duration: 18 months fixed term.

North Northamptonshire Council.
- Support the implementation and ongoing development of the local Suicide Prevention Strategy and Action Plan and wider Mental Health projects.
- Coordinate delivery of key actions, monitoring progress and outcomes across the partnership.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Public Health team, as well as NHS partners, voluntary and community organisations, and other council services.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of evidence‑based mental health improvement programmes.
- Analyse data and intelligence to inform planning, identify needs, and support evaluation.
- Participate in multi‑agency networks and forums focused on improving mental wellbeing and reducing suicide risk.
- Support wider public mental health work, ensuring prevention and wellbeing approaches are embedded across council and partner activity.
You will report to the Public Health Practitioner leading on Mental Health and will work closely with colleagues across the wider Public Health team.
About You- Experience in public health, mental health promotion, or suicide prevention.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- The ability to work effectively with a range of partners and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to present information clearly and sensitively.
- A commitment to reducing health inequalities and improving mental wellbeing for all residents.
- Experience of working within a local authority, NHS, or voluntary sector public health setting would be an advantage.
