Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist (Stroke)

As an HCPC registered Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist supporting Stroke patients at the Trafford Stroke Rehabilitation Unit you will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team to support stroke patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals. The role requires a strong understanding and experience of managing visual and cognitive deficits following a stroke.

Alongside the senior team you will provide leadership to ensure the Occupational Therapy provision is in line with the National Stroke Guideline and the NICE Guidelines for Stroke. There will be opportunities to lead on quality improvement projects and be involved in research studies and work alongside a Consultant AHP in Stroke.

Working collaboratively with senior colleagues you will deliver supervision and education to registered and non-registered staff, supporting all staff to provide holistic care.

You will be supported by Band 7 colleagues and a Clinical Lead Therapist. There is also support from an OT Professional Lead and peer group on site at TGH.

Main duties of the job

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward‑thinking Occupational Therapist to be part of our senior team working with stroke rehabilitation patients.

You will need to be flexible and committed to delivering high‑quality, patient‑focused care with experience of working with stroke patients at a senior level.

The role requires you to work across 6 days working 1 in 4 Saturdays.

Strong leadership skills are essential to complement your advanced Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills. This will enable you to coordinate and monitor the caseload, manage complex rehab interventions and support discharge planning. You will provide supervision, leadership and teaching to the Occupational Therapy team and non‑registered Band 3 and 4 staff.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications
  • Recognised BSC Honours degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • Completion of validated/nationally professionally recognised postgraduate specialist courses and ongoing relevant postgraduate training.
  • State registration via Health and Care Professions Council
  • Member of relevant specialist clinical interest group
  • Clinical Educators course
  • Registered member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy
  • Completion of a basic management course
  • Audit & Research training to a postgraduate level
