Job OverviewThis role provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills in the assessment and management of children with feeding and communication difficulties within an acute setting, focusing on neonates and paediatric dysphagia.
The post covers two of the three sites of the MFT Neonatal service and requires experience with tracheostomy assessment, metabolic conditions and rare congenital conditions.
Responsibilities- Assess and manage infants and children with feeding and swallowing difficulties, tracheostomy care and communication challenges.
- Provide specialist interventions for paediatric dysphagia and neonatal feeding across acute and general paediatric settings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
- Support and supervise less experienced staff and provide line management or clinical supervision where required.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit and improvement initiatives.
- Accredited degree or Certificate to Practice (SLT) and HCPC registration.
- Post‑Basic Dysphagia qualification or equivalent highly specialist accredited courses in dysphagia management and neonates.
- Significant experience in an acute hospital setting with children with feeding/swallowing problems and speech and language impairment.
- Experience in paediatric dysphagia and neonatal care, including assessment of infants with tracheostomy.
- Experience in using videofluoroscopy for paediatric dysphagia and ability to interpret and communicate findings.
- Leadership and supervisory experience within a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Highly comprehensive applied theoretical knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute dysphagia and neonates.
- Evidence of providing SLT interventions for feeding infants and children.
- Skillful communication of assessment and treatment plans to other professionals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
