We are seeking an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join Manchester City Council's Emergency Duty Service Team
. This exciting locum opportunity offers a minimum six-month contract within a specialist out-of-hours service, providing Mental Health Act assessments and responding to urgent adult social care situations across Manchester.

This is an ideal role for an AMHP looking to work in a fast-paced, autonomous environment where every shift presents new challenges and the opportunity to make a real difference.

What you will do
  • Carry out comprehensive Mental Health Act assessments in line with current legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Respond promptly to urgent mental health crises, making informed and legally sound decisions.
  • Provide emergency social care interventions for adults in crisis.
  • Work collaboratively with health professionals, emergency services, police, and partner agencies to deliver coordinated care.
  • Manage complex and high-risk situations with confidence, professionalism, and sound clinical judgement.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive case records and statutory documentation.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance within the Emergency Duty Service when required.
