Job overview
  • Provide and perform, complex specialist and advanced clinical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the two disciplines of Clinical Respiratory and Clinical Sleep Physiology, to patients of all ages, from a range of specialties, which are essentially cardio-thoracic in nature.
  • Undertake interpretation of results and provision of subjective clinical reports.
  • Participate in the development and training of Clinical Physiologists and other staff within the designated specialist area.
  • Undertake clinical supervision and training of students and other staff
  • Work collaboratively on a day-to-day basis with colleagues to ensure that the daily workload needs are met.
  • Participate in regular clinical audits of activities.
Main duties of the job Clinical Duties
  • Maintain high professional standard of Respiratory-Sleep services to patients.
  • Plan, perform, interpret, and provide reports on a wide range of Respiratory physiological investigations to patients of all age groups, without supervision, employing current standards.
  • Plan, perform, interpret, and provide reports on sleep investigations on patients referred by primary and secondary care without supervision.
  • Initiate CPAP treatment where appropriate and conduct follow-up CPAP compliance reviews, face to face and remote following agreed protocols.
  • Support ward polygraphy sleep studies when required.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings within respiratory and sleep sciences.
  • Maintain continuous professional development appropriate to the range of Respiratory-Sleep services to patients.
  • Provide support to Respiratory-Sleep staff in dealing with difficult and conflicting situations of a clinical nature in addition to act accordingly when exposed to distressing or emotional circumstances when dealing directly with patients and or their relatives.
  • Act in a professional manner towards all patients, colleagues and visitors.
  • Undertake calibration, simple fault remedies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and ensure these are in good working order. In case of equipment failure, effectively communicate with the Service Manager and in their absence, the manufacturers and service contractors to minimise any interruption of service.
