Salford City Council is continuing to strengthen and evolve its Adult Social Care services, with a clear commitment to inclusion, innovation and person-centred practice. Our new Provider Services arm of Adult Social Care supports Salford people to live fulfilling, independent and connected lives. Provider Services support people with learning disabilities, autism, dementia, mental health needs, physical disabilities and complex care conditions, helping people to achieve their goals and to live their life, their way, by giving people greater choice and control and being part of person-centred planning.

About the role

As a Support Worker you will tailor person centred care with the individual needs of people, aspirations, and outcomes. You will work with specialist lead practitioners to adopt and ensure Positive Behaviour Support strategies are effectively applied and to ensure Complex Care needs are met. You will work closely with specialist practitioners, drawing on knowledge, advice and guidance and apply and embed this in everyday practices.

Your role will involve:

  • Ensuring the person is at the heart of everything we do
  • Supporting people to carry out all the tasks involved in their daily life. Helping people to manage finances, their home, domestic tasks, meal preparation, medication, routine appointments and personal care
  • Encouraging participation in social leisure and community activities
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting any concerns
  • Supporting people to develop positive relationships and to be an equal and valued member of their local community
  • Directly supporting people by providing specialist interventions where appropriate
What we’re looking for

We are seeking skilled and values-driven support workers with:

  • A caring, practical and person-centred approach
  • Experience of supporting adults with complex care needs including learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, mental health needs and behaviours of concern
  • Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with people who use services, their families, carers and colleagues
  • Good communication skills with the ability to adapt approaches to meet the needs of individuals
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
  • Flexibility in your approach to working patterns and service needs
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviours Support (PBS) principles and the ability to apply proactive, preventative strategies in practice is desirable
  • Awareness of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Equality Act 2010 is desirable
  • Commitment to learning and professional development
