Job summary

The States of Guernsey are looking for a Team Leader to join the Emergency Department at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Team Leaders are required to be enthusiastic, motivated and able to work under pressure without supervision.

Ideally you will have at least 3 years experience working in an emergency department including Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation experience.

We participate in the emergency rota to provide hospital-wide emergency teams for adults and paediatrics and as part of your responsibilities, you will be the lead nurse on behalf of the department.

As team leader you will regularly take operational charge of the Emergency Department and which requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work under pressure in a diverse environment.

As a band 7 leader you will be expected to be professional and be a role model to other staff and work efficiently alongside the ED doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team, demonstrating your ability to listen and support patients, families and staff.

The post holder is expected to demonstrate portfolio evidence of training and development specific to emergency nursing, to include ALS/EPLS and ideally ATNC. Also, proficiency in cannulation, venepuncture and plastering.

Job responsibilities
  • To promote and deliver a high standard of care based on best practice to maintain patient/service user safety and provide an excellent.
  • To coordinate the assessment of patients/service users with complex needs including individuals with unconfirmed diagnosis.
  • To coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of specialised programmes of care utilising evidence and research.
  • To lead a team of staff/provide specialist advice in acute and chronic situations ensuring that the patients/services users needs are met along with their support network.
  • To ensure patient/service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
  • To utilise data and information from a range of sources to identify patient/service user condition to guide decision making.
  • Within field of expertise and policy and where appropriate, request specific clinical tests to establish a diagnosis.
  • To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and their support networks.
  • To ensure that professional standards are upheld by the staff members working within the postholders sphere of responsibility.
  • To manage all incidents as per policy and participate in risk management and Quality and Safety processes e.g SWARM.
  • To be accountable for ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients/service users and elevate any safety, safeguarding or risk concerns following the appropriate processes
Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse with the NMC
  • Teaching/ Mentoring qualification
  • Diploma in related field
  • Substantial experience within Emergency Care
