Homecare Gurus Ltd is seeking a kind, patient, and reliable Companion / Support Worker to make a real difference in the life of a young adult with autism and a learning disability. This rewarding role is centred on providing exceptional person-centred companionship, fostering social engagement, and offering crucial emotional support. It is a non-medical position that does not involve personal care or manual handling, allowing you to focus purely on building a supportive and trusting relationship.

Your primary goal will be to support the individual through safe and enjoyable activities, tailored to their preferences.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing calm, reassuring company and engaging in conversations, games, crafts, or music.
• Supporting hobbies, established routines, and structure during visits.
• Assisting with safe social engagement both at home and within the community.
• Understanding and respecting autism-related communication styles and sensory needs.
• Observing and responding appropriately to signs of distress, ensuring the client's well-being at all times.

As a Companion / Support Worker, your day-to-day will be focused on creating a positive and stable environment for a young adult. You'll be their trusted partner, engaging in activities they love, from quiet puzzles and crafts to supporting their hobbies. This role is about building a genuine connection, understanding their unique communication preferences, and providing a reassuring presence. You'll become adept at recognising signs of anxiety or sensory overload and responding with empathy and skill.

• Must have a caring, calm, and patient nature.
• Proven experience supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, or other additional needs.
• Good communication and observation skills.
• Ability to follow a care/support plan and risk assessment.
• Must be reliable and punctual.
• Demonstrates respect for dignity, choice, privacy, and independence.
• Willingness to complete all required training.
• Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and build trust gradually.
• Comfortable providing companionship without pressuring the person to talk or interact constantly.
