We have a vacancy for the below mentioned shift:
Monday to Friday, 18:00-22:00 including bank holidays, 20 hours per week. The Domestic Services Team based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking for Domestic Assistants to be part of the night team working in all wards and departments across the Trust site, including Covid‑19 areas and other infection areas. We are looking for reliable, enthusiastic and flexible individuals who have experience in cleaning and wish to develop whilst working with a team in a department that is embracing the revised National Cleaning Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a clean, hygienic and safe environment for patients and clinical staff.
  • Assist nurses and other stakeholders (e.g., Bed Managers) with discharge/infection cleans as per local RAG poster.
  • Maintain all floor surfaces using mechanical and electrical equipment following appropriate training.
  • Provide a rapid response service to a high standard of cleanliness under supervision of the domestic supervisor.

  • General cleaning, high‑ and low‑level dusting, wet and dry mopping.
  • Clean and store equipment after use.
  • Removal of clinical and general waste; manage waste to designated store.
  • Cleaning and descaling of toilets and sanitary areas; cleaning baths, taps, and showers.
  • Removal and cleaning of bodily fluids in public areas.
  • Curtain changing: take down old curtains and re‑hang new ones.
  • Replenish all disposables, hand towels, toilet rolls, soaps, and gels.
  • Adhere to cleaning policies, procedures, and frequencies.
  • Operate mechanical cleaning equipment (scrubbing, buffing, vacuum, carpet shampoo).
  • Check health and safety of equipment and report hazards or potential hazards.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to the domestic supervisor.
  • Wear personal protection equipment and clean uniform at all times in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Respond to rectifications following audits within a given timescale.
  • Report any signs of infestation to the Domestic Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate the Christie values and be accountable for own attitude and behaviour.
  • Carry out instructions in own area of work; liaise with ward and department staff to prioritise work areas.
  • Communicate sensitively when patients or relatives make enquiries.
  • Have a basic knowledge of Trust policy and procedures relating to the area of work.
  • Undergo full training in accordance with National Cleaning Standards; undertake CET and ensure annual compliance.
  • Complete departmental induction training including manual handling and working at heights.
  • Agree changes to working practices or procedures for own work area when required.
  • Work in accordance with COSHH regulations and follow all instructions from training and mandatory training.
  • Work largely unsupervised on a daily basis, knowing when to seek supervision or assistance.
  • Respond to ward/department activity and work schedules; plan and prioritise workload.
  • Perform moderate physical effort: lifting, pushing equipment, collecting equipment and consumables from stores.
  • Perform moderate bending and stooping when cleaning equipment, fixtures, fittings, and floors.
  • Maintain concentration for sustained periods, responding to unpredictable work patterns and interruptions.
  • Work at heights when required.
  • Act calmly and quickly in emergencies.
  • Experience frequent exposure to dirt, dust, bodily fluids, and occasional distressing emotional circumstances.
  • Maintain condition of domestic services equipment; report faults.
  • Control stock in own area of work (soaps, gels, paper towels, mops, cloths, etc.).
  • Provide support to new starters to build confidence and experience in the environment.
  • Ensure trust HR policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Have basic IT knowledge and skills; log on to a computer to access trust information systems.
  • Operate toilet time monitoring systems per manufacturer instructions.
  • Complete trust and departmental training online or in classroom.
  • Participate in domestic services departmental monitoring in own area of work.
  • Respond to ward/activity maintain delivery of work schedules.
