Caretaker

Salary: £14.64p/h

Location:

Salford, Eccles, M30

Hours:

40 hours per week

Working Pattern:
Monday - Friday 6am and 2pm

About the Role

Dalkia UK is looking for a practical, reliable and hardworking Caretaker to join our team at a school site in the Salford area of Eccles.

Reporting to the Head Caretaker/Facilities Manager, you will support the day-to‑day operation of the site, helping to ensure the school remains safe, secure, clean, well maintained and fit for purpose for pupils, staff and visitors.

This is an active, hands‑on role combining general caretaking duties, building maintenance and repairs, site safety and cleaning support. The role involves regular physical activity throughout the working day, so it would suit someone who enjoys being active, takes pride in maintaining high standards and is comfortable working across a busy school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs to the internal and external areas of the school buildings and premises.
  • Support the care, presentation and ongoing upkeep of the site.
  • Carry out routine plant and equipment checks, reporting and logging faults as required.
  • Replace lighting tubes and lamps when required.
  • Support site security, including the operation of fire and intruder panels and key-holder responsibilities.
  • Report any unauthorised access, damage or site security concerns.
  • Ensure external areas are kept clean and tidy, including external bin areas.
  • Undertake cleaning duties and support the onsite cleaning operation as required.
  • Assist with the set‑up and movement of materials and equipment across the school site.
  • Complete planned maintenance and routine site checks, ensuring all required documentation is accurately maintained.
  • Identify and report maintenance, Health & Safety, compliance or equipment‑related concerns.
  • Support the Head Caretaker and wider site team with the day-to‑day operation of the school premises.
  • Monitor BMS systems and make adjustments where required.
  • Ensure Health & Safety and environmental procedures are followed at all times, reporting any concerns, accidents or near misses in line with Dalkia UK policies.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Practical experience or skills in areas such as joinery, plumbing or general maintenance.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting the needs of the school site.
Desirable
  • Previous experience within caretaking, building maintenance, facilities, site security, grounds maintenance or a similar environment.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Asbestos and Legionella awareness.
  • IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
  • First Aid training.
