OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

North of England | Permanent

Mech Electrics are working on behalf of a highly successful engineering and project delivery business to recruit an Operations Director.

This is a senior leadership position supporting the Director of Operations and working closely with the board and business owners across a portfolio of technically complex projects delivered throughout the UK.

The business delivers critical infrastructure, refurbishment and building services projects directly for end-user clients and has developed an excellent reputation for quality, repeat business and long-term client relationships.

IMPORTANT BACKGROUND REQUIREMENT

This position requires an established background within electrical building services, MEP contracting, critical infrastructure or specialist engineering project delivery.

Applicants should currently operate in a senior operational leadership position within sectors such as:

• Electrical Building Services

• MEP Contracting

• Critical Infrastructure

• Data Centres

• Power Distribution

• Rail Electrification and Power

• Specialist Electrical Engineering

• Industrial or Mission Critical Environments

The successful candidate will possess a strong technical appreciation of electrical infrastructure and project delivery, enabling them to effectively support project teams, design functions, pre-construction teams and clients throughout the project lifecycle.

Candidates from general construction, fit-out, residential development, facilities management or non-technical operational backgrounds are unlikely to possess the specialist knowledge required for this position.

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will provide operational leadership across multiple projects located throughout the North West, Midlands, North East, London and occasionally the South West.

Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Design Managers, Commercial Teams and Pre-Construction functions, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably and to the highest standards whilst maintaining exceptional client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a highly visible role requiring regular travel to projects, engagement with clients and involvement in strategic business decisions. You will be expected to provide support and leadership to operational teams whilst maintaining a clear understanding of project performance, programme delivery, commercial position and future opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leadership of multiple projects and operational teams across the UK.

• Supporting Project Managers and Site Managers throughout project delivery.

• Providing guidance and support to design, engineering and pre-construction teams.

• Maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring customer satisfaction.

• Reviewing project performance, commercial position and operational risks.

• Supporting health, safety, quality and programme objectives.

• Providing operational reporting to senior management and board members.

• Identifying opportunities for repeat business and future project opportunities.

• Working closely with design, commercial and delivery teams to ensure successful outcomes.

• Acting as a senior representative of the business with clients, consultants and stakeholders.

• Supporting the continued growth and development of operational teams.

THE PERSON

We are seeking an experienced Operations Director, Regional Director, Contracts Director or Senior Operations Manager currently working within an electrical building services, MEP, critical infrastructure or specialist engineering contracting environment.

You will possess:

• Strong leadership and people management skills.

• Experience managing multiple projects and operational teams.

• Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management abilities.

• Strong understanding of electrical project delivery and engineering environments.

• Commercial awareness and project reporting experience.

• The credibility to engage confidently with senior management, clients and business owners.

• A collaborative and hands-on leadership style.

• A desire to play a key role in the future growth of a successful business.
