Are you an experienced marine ornithologist ready to take on a strategic leadership role? You will play a key part within a senior leadership team, shaping the operational delivery and future direction of a nationally recognised marine ornithology service.

Head of Marine Ornithology

Role Overview

Working in partnership with our Associate Director for Marine Ornithology (Technical Excellence), you will lead the operational delivery of our marine ornithology service, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, teams are supported, and the business continues to grow sustainably. You will combine operational leadership with technical excellence to deliver high‑quality, defensible advice to clients across the marine sector.

Responsibilities

• Lead the integration of recently merged marine ornithology teams, creating clear ways of working, shared standards and a strong team identity.

• Drive performance and growth of a high‑performing team.

• Oversee project delivery for major offshore infrastructure projects, particularly offshore wind.

• Ensure projects meet UK and Ireland marine consenting processes, including EIA and HRA, by engaging effectively with technical specialists.

• Manage budgets and resources, contributing to bids and proposals.

• Foster a collaborative culture that supports sustainable growth while maintaining high‑quality service for clients.

• Lead teams through change and integration.

Qualifications
  • Significant experience delivering marine ornithology work for major offshore infrastructure projects, especially offshore wind.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and managing delivery within a consultancy or similar professional environment.
  • Strong understanding of UK and Ireland marine consenting processes, including EIA and HRA, with the ability to oversee delivery and engage with technical specialists.
  • Demonstrable commercial awareness, experience managing budgets, resources, and contributing to bids and proposals.
  • Excellent people‑management, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to lead teams through change and integration.
