Head of Responsible Artificial Intelligence is a senior role within HSBC UK Business Risk & Resilience, shaping how we govern and oversee AI and GenAI across the bank. You’ll set the risk and controls strategy and provide oversight so AI is designed, deployed and operated safely, fairly and securely in line with UK regulatory expectations and HSBC UK’s risk appetite. Working across HSBC UK and with Group stakeholders, you’ll provide effective scrutiny across the AI lifecycle and support accountable decision‑making for material AI use cases.

You’ll also set expectations for operational resilience and third‑party assurance for AI solutions. Success means clear decision rights, consistent governance outcomes and decision‑ready reporting that strengthens customer outcomes, colleague impact and the bank’s resilience.

This role can be based in Birmingham, Sheffield,Leeds or Manchester

• Define risk and minimum control standards for AI and GenAI use cases including monitoring thresholds for customer‑facing and material decisioning applications
• Establish the governance operating model for HSBC UK AI use cases including decision rights and escalation routes and ensure adherence across governance meetings
• Oversee controls across the AI lifecycle including use‑case intake, data suitability, development, validation, deployment, monitoring, change management and decommissioning
• Translate UK supervisory expectations into practical requirements and evidence covering governance, model risk, operational resilience, consumer outcomes and third‑party risk
• Set operational resilience expectations for AI services including impact tolerances, dependency mapping, testing approaches and recoverability
• Coordinate response to AI‑related incidents including root cause analysis and sustainable remediation tracking
• Set assurance requirements for third‑party AI solutions covering transparency, auditability, data rights, security and exit plans and oversee ongoing monitoring
• Provide decision‑ready MI and reporting to senior risk committees on AI inventory, materiality, KRIs and KPIs, issues, incidents and remediation progress and support internal and regulatory reviews

• Senior experience in risk, governance, assurance or control design for AI or analytics in a regulated environment
• Strong understanding of AI and GenAI risk domains including fairness and bias, explainability, privacy, security, data governance, model risk, conduct and consumer outcomes and operational resilience
• Proven experience translating UK regulatory and supervisory expectations into workable governance, controls and evidence
• Experience providing scrutiny and oversight across an end‑to‑end AI lifecycle
• Ability to present complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences and influence decision‑making in senior forums
• Experience building effective networks across a matrix structure including with Compliance (RC), Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Legal
• People management experience including building capability through training, playbooks and communities of practice
• Experience producing clear MI for senior stakeholders including AI inventory, materiality, KRIs and KPIs and issue and remediation tracking
