Mechanical Fitter

Salary: £32,500 per annum

Working Hours:

Monday to Thursday 8:30am – 5:30pm, Friday 8:30am – 1:00pm
Benefits: 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays | Pension (3% Employer / 5% Employee) | Overtime Available

The Company

Our client is a well-established and growing engineering manufacturer specialising in high-performance automated machinery used across a range of industrial sectors. Due to continued growth and increased demand, they are now seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join their engineering team.

The Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the mechanical assembly, installation, and maintenance of specialist automated machinery. This is a hands‑on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys precision work, problem‑solving, and working with complex mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and assemble mechanical components and machinery to engineering specifications
  • Install and align mechanical systems including conveyors, rotary components, and associated equipment
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Carry out machine fitting, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out corrective maintenance
  • Support machine upgrades, refurbishments, and changeovers
  • Work collaboratively with electrical and controls teams during build and commissioning
  • Ensure all work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards
About You

We are looking for a motivated and skilled Mechanical Fitter who takes pride in producing high-quality work and enjoys working in a team-based engineering environment.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Machine Builder, or similar engineering role
  • Strong mechanical assembly and fault‑finding skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings
  • Experience working with bearings, shafts, gearboxes, and mechanical alignment
  • Competent in the use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment
  • Good understanding of safe working practices
Desirable (Not Essential)
  • Experience working with automated or special purpose machinery
  • Knowledge of conveyors, rotary systems, or pneumatic equipment
  • Basic understanding of pneumatic or hydraulic systems
  • Willingness to support occasional site‑based work if required
