From antenatal diagnosis to childhood, you will shape care pathways, support families, and champion excellence, bridging neonatal and children’s services across the region.

Main duties of the job

The Northwest Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (ODN), in partnership with Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, is seeking an exceptional Band 8a Neonatal Nurse Specialist to lead and develop care for neonates with complex medical needs (CMC) across the region.

As the Roald Dahl Neonatal CMC Nurse Specialist, you will provide expert clinical leadership and specialist nursing care for neonates with complex, life‑limiting, or long‑term conditions across the Northwest Neonatal ODN.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with NMC registration
  • Specialist neonatal qualification (e.g., Neonatal Intensive Care or Child Health) or equivalent experience in the neonatal nursing field.
Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent clinical and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage complex, high‑risk clinical situations with confidence and professionalism.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and motivational skills.
  • Critical evaluation, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Ability to cope with a busy, unpredictable environment and manage competing demands.
  • Ability to work independently, manage their own workload, and take initiative.
Knowledge
  • In‑depth knowledge of neonatology, paediatric care, and care of neonates with medical complexity.
  • Understanding of local and national healthcare policies and protocols, particularly related to neonatal and paediatric care.
Experience
  • Significant clinical experience within neonatal intensive care, particularly in managing infants with complex medical conditions.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage clinical teams in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
  • Band 7 or above experience
  • Experience working in an ODN or across regional networks
  • Advanced Practice:
    Evidence of advanced practice qualifications such as a master’s degree in advanced clinical practice or neonatal care
  • Leadership Training:
    Experience with team leadership, education, and mentoring within a healthcare setting
