The Band 4 Nursing Associate within the Surgical Admissions Lounge and Day Case Unit supports the safe and efficient admission and preparation of patients for surgery.

Working closely with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will undertake observations, complete pre‑operative checks, and ensure patients are ready for theatre. The role is key to maintaining patient flow, enhancing theatre efficiency, and delivering a high‑quality, patient‑centred experience.

• Work across all areas of the Day Surgery Unit, including pre‑operative assessment, theatre support, and postoperative recovery.
• Admit day‑case patients, complete pre‑operative checks, and prepare them for their surgical procedure.
• Provide safe and effective nurse‑led discharge, ensuring patients receive appropriate post‑operative instructions, information, and support.
• Monitor physiological observations and provide reassurance and support to patients throughout their time in the Unit.
• Offer emotional support to patients and their families, helping them feel informed and reassured throughout their day surgery journey.
• Deliver safe and effective post‑operative recovery care in accordance with Day Surgery and recovery protocols.
• Ensure high standards of infection prevention and control are maintained at all times.
• Liaise with wards, theatres, and other Allied Health Professionals to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care.
• Comply with all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), clinical guidelines, and Trust policies.
• Maintain a safe clinical environment and adhere to all health and safety requirements.

• NMC Registration with a current PIN to practice as a Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK.
• Evidence of ongoing CPD.
• Experience in supervising learners.
• Paediatric experience.

• Knowledge of multidisciplinary team working.
• Evidence of managing and improving the patient experience.

• Ability to use own initiative and prioritise own workload.
• Ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice.
