Nurse Specialist

An exciting development opportunity has arisen within the Gynaecology Surgical Oncology Team for a 12 Month fixed Term full time Band 6 Gynaecology Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Our patients undergo highly specialised and often complex joint surgery in conjunction with the Colorectal, Urology, Gynaecology and Plastic Surgery specialties. Surgery at The Christie is a world leader and national centre for Surgery. You should be a highly motivated professional with gynaecological surgery and/or oncology experience, who wishes to contribute to the development the nursing team and service utilising their clinical knowledge and specialist nursing skills.

You must be a team player with clinical expertise who is driven to improve patient care and experience, ensuring the delivery of exceptional, high-quality care.

Applicants must have excellent demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills, with evidence of experience in the speciality is desirable. They will also possess excellent organisational and clinical skills relevant to the post and be able to act as a positive role model. Commitment to the on-going development of the service, multidisciplinary team and the wider Greater Manchester Specialist Surgery Services for Gynaecological Cancer is essential.

Evidence of surgical /oncology experience is desirable in this instance.

Perform a comprehensive Key Worker role for patients during their care pathway at the Christie Hospital. This involves the assessment of patient nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health care needs to ensure continuity of effective patient care and improve patient satisfaction.

Liaise with other Clinical Nurse Specialists, Cancer Pathway Coordinators, and other professionals, as well as those from referring units, to ensure effective transfer of information across different NHS organisations.

Facilitate the hand- over and continuity of the Key Worker's role between the referring and treatment organisations to maintain consistency of care.

Maintain advanced clinical skills in assessment, and knowledge of diagnosis and treatment options for the patient.

Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records in line with clinical governance and risk management.

Use advanced communication skills in a variety of settings, including discussions around patient care and treatment plans with patients, carers, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Involve patients/carers in the planning and delivery of care and development of services to enhance the patient/carer experience.

Apply evidence-based research to practice.

Act always in accordance with the NMC code of conduct and guiding documents

Provide specialist, expert clinical knowledge to clinical colleagues, patients and carers/relatives both within and outside the Trust.

Undertake clinical supervision of professional health care colleagues on an individual or group basis.

Evaluate service delivery; identify areas for improvement and initiate change.

Ensure effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources.
