Herd Manager - Dairy
-South West Wales -£45,000-£55,000 +Accommodation

We are working with an established dairy farming business to recruit a Herd Manager to support the management of two large dairy units. The business operates three dairy units and a separate young stock rearing unit, all within a seven-mile radius. This role will focus on supporting the management of the 1,200-cow and 650-cow units, working closely alongside the Farm Manager and existing Herd Managers to maintain high standards of herd health, welfare, performance and day to day farm operations.

This is a hands on herd management position, ideal for someone with strong dairy experience who enjoys working with people, managing routines and driving herd performance. You will work alongside an experienced team, with support and mentoring available.

The responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Farm Manager and existing Herd Managers to ensure the smooth running of both units
  • Monitor herd health, welfare, fertility and overall performance, identifying areas for improvement
  • Help coordinate daily routines, ensuring high standards of stockmanship and cow care are maintained
  • Support the implementation of herd management plans and protocols

Monitor performance data and use this to help inform management decisions
  • Assist with staff coordination, providing guidance and helping maintain consistent working practices across the units
  • Work proactively to identify and resolve issues relating to herd performance and daily operations
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure farm procedures and welfare standards are followed
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of herd management practices

This is a herd management role, not a milking position

The Candidate:
  • Previous experience in a dairy herd management or senior dairy farming role
  • Experience working with large dairy herds and an understanding of modern dairy systems
  • Good knowledge of herd health, fertility, welfare and performance management
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate daily routines effectively
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • The confidence to work alongside farm management and support the wider team
  • A genuine interest in improving herd performance and maintaining high standards of cow care
  • Experience with artificial insemination (AI) would be desirable
The Package:
  • Salary of £45,000-£55,000, depending on experience
  • Accommodation available
  • Working every other weekend
  • The opportunity to work across two substantial dairy units
  • Support and mentoring from an experienced Farm Manager and established team
  • An opportunity to contribute to herd performance and the continued development of the business
