We are currently looking for a Senior Scientist to join our Research and Development function within the Scientific Research and Innovation group at the MHRA.

What’s the role?

As a Senior Scientist you will support the delivery of priority regulatory scientific research on engineered and synthetic phages. You will investigate the persistence, spread and duration of phage products in the environment and their potential impact on antimicrobial resistance, informing regulatory evaluation across One Health.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and execute R&D projects on engineered and synthetic phages, addressing regulatory and scientific questions.
  • Collaborate with national and international stakeholders including WHO, product developers, manufacturers, regulatory organisations and academia.
  • Analyse and interpret complex data sets, keeping accurate records and communicating findings through written reports, scientific publications and presentations.
  • Serve as laboratory supervisor, overseeing facilities, equipment and staff safety.
  • Seek and drive continuous service improvement through expert services, training and technical advice.
Who are we looking for?
  • Experience in molecular biology, microbiology and bioinformatics, with a strong background in biological assay data analysis.
  • Proven laboratory skills related to microbiological analysis, ideally of environmental samples.
  • Excellent analytical and data management skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Broad knowledge of engineering biology and the relevant regulatory, standardisation and analytical methods.
  • PhD in biochemistry, biology, molecular microbiology or similar is desirable.
