Business Development – Specwall Advanced Wall Systems
Specwall is looking to recruit a Sales / Specification Manager to support the continued growth of our advanced walling systems across the UK construction market.
This is a key commercial role focused on developing specifications, building relationships with clients and consultants, generating project opportunities and helping convert technical interest into secured orders.
The role would suit someone with experience in drylining, light gauge steel, fire-rated systems, shaftwall, façades, modular construction, specialist subcontracting, building products, smoke shafts, risers, or technical construction sales . Previous Specwall experience is not required, as product and system training will be provided.
Role OverviewThe successful candidate will work closely with the Specwall technical, commercial and operational teams to promote the Specwall system to contractors, architects, consultants, developers and specialist subcontractors. The role requires someone who can understand a technical construction product, communicate its benefits clearly, identify suitable project opportunities and help move those opportunities through specification, tender, approval and order stage.
Key Responsibilities- Promote Specwall systems to main contractors, architects, consultants, developers and specialist subcontractors.
- Develop new project opportunities across target sectors including smoke shafts, risers, fire-rated walls, internal walls, external wall applications and off-site manufactured walling solutions.
- Build and maintain relationships with specifiers, contractors, fire consultants, M&E consultants and construction decision-makers.
- Support the development of project specifications and ensure Specwall is considered at early design stage.
- Identify live projects, tender opportunities and suitable routes to market.
- Work with the technical team to prepare proposals, technical submissions and supporting information.
- Attend client meetings, design meetings, CPD-style presentations and site visits.
- Track opportunities from initial enquiry through to specification, tender, negotiation and order.
- Support pricing discussions, commercial follow-up and conversion of enquiries into sales.
- Maintain accurate records of leads, contacts, project stages and forecast opportunities.
- Provide market feedback on competitor systems, pricing, customer requirements and sector trends.
- Help develop sales literature, presentations, case studies and sector-specific marketing material.
The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Drylining, partitions, shaftwall or fire-rated systems.
- Smoke shafts, risers or fire-rated construction.
- Specialist subcontracting.
- Modular or off-site construction.
- Main contractor or consultant-facing business development.
- Technical sales into architects, consultants or Tier 1 contractors.
- Strong business development and relationship-building ability.
- Good understanding of the UK construction market.
- Ability to understand and explain a technical construction product.
- Confidence dealing with contractors, consultants, architects and specialist subcontractors.
- Ability to identify opportunities and follow them through to order stage.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and ability to support pricing and negotiation.
- Organised approach to lead tracking, follow-up and forecasting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a growing team.
- Practical, proactive and target-focused attitude.
- Existing relationships with drylining contractors, fire consultants, architects, M&E consultants, main contractors or developers.
- Experience promoting fire-rated, structural, modular or specialist walling systems.
- Understanding of technical submissions, approvals, specifications and construction drawings.
- Experience with CRM systems or structured project tracking.
- Ability to deliver CPD-style presentations or technical product introductions.
- Knowledge of smoke control, fire-rated risers, service shafts, compartmentation or high-rise construction would be advantageous.
