Young Person Independent Living Officer – Staying Close

Contract:

1-year fixed-term contract. This is not a live‑in role.

The role supports young people who are leaving care by providing additional support to improve accommodation outcomes, stability and reduce homelessness. The job is based primarily at The Lodge (Leaving Care Service) but you will work across Manchester, supporting care leavers before they secure a tenancy and when they are accommodated by other housing providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide additional practical and emotional support to care leavers to help them transition into independent living.
  • Collaborate with the Leaving Care Service, housing services and partner agencies to ensure high quality support and coordination.
  • Work flexibly, including evening and weekend hours, as required.
  • Travel across Greater Manchester in a reliable clean car (you must hold a valid UK driving licence).
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Passion for advocacy on behalf of young people and communities.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable children, young people and adults.
  • Background check: an enhanced criminal records background check will be arranged; a conviction is not automatically disqualifying.
Benefits
  • 33 days holiday per year plus bank holidays and a holiday purchase scheme.
  • Company pension scheme with up to 10% matched contributions.
  • Company funded health cash plan, covering everyday health treatments.
  • Enhanced sick pay: up to 3 months full pay and 3 months half pay.
  • Health and wellbeing support, including employee assistance programme, free counselling and mental health first aiders.
  • Life assurance (subject to membership in the company pension scheme).
  • Learning and development support.
  • Commitment to Equality and Inclusion; employee network groups for anti‑racism, LGBTQ+, disability, long‑term health conditions, carers and menopause.
