Overview

An exciting opportunity for a full‑time permanent Social Worker role in the Special Guardianship Service within the Salford Fostering Service. The role works with children and families who have special guardianship orders, supporting placements and working closely with Special Guardians, birth parents, and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to and undertake contacts, referrals and assessments, including Fostering Duty.
  • Provide advice and information to colleagues and external professionals.
  • Collaboratively work using the Family Partnership Model within the Local Authority.
  • Support placements for children and young people, working with complex families in child‑in‑need, child protection and legal arenas.
  • Complete special guardianship assessments of applicants.
  • Co‑ordinate support arrangements and adoption support fund applications.
  • Undertake annual reviews of support plans.
  • Deliver workshops, training and facilitate support groups.
  • Make onward referrals and provide ongoing support.
  • Conduct support needs assessments to identify family support areas.
  • Attend multi‑agency meetings and court, preparing assessments and reports.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Qualified and professionally registered as a social worker.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and regulations.
  • Experience working with children, young people, families and partner agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage and prioritise a caseload.
  • Flexible and able to undertake visits, attend meetings and travel outside the local authority area.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic parenting or willingness to learn this style of parenting.
  • Ability to link child presentation and behaviours to attachment, secure base and trauma‑related theory.
  • Competent in court attendance and producing assessment reports.
  • Full Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required.
  • Applicants who have worked abroad for 3 months or more in the last 5 years must obtain a Certificate of Good Character.
