Housing Support Worker

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced
Housing Support Worker
to join a Homelessness service, providing practical and personalised support to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

You will work primarily in customers' accommodation and within community settings, building trusting relationships and providing flexible, person-centred outreach support to help people achieve greater stability, independence and resilience.

The role involves working with customers who may have
multiple and complex needs
, requiring an assertive, patient and flexible approach to engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a
    Key Worker/Lead Professional
    , working with customers to identify needs, agree goals and develop personalised action plans.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with individuals and families, including those who may be hard to engage.
  • Deliver practical interventions focused on developing skills, encouraging positive behaviour change and promoting independence.
  • Work closely with housing providers and partner agencies to coordinate support around individual needs.
  • Support customers through the
    rehousing process
    , helping to maximise positive housing outcomes and minimise time spent in temporary accommodation.
  • Monitor and advise customers regarding
    rent accounts, affordability and personal budgeting
    .
  • Challenge behaviours and barriers that may prevent customers from achieving positive outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusive access to services.
About You

We're looking for someone with experience of supporting people who may be experiencing
homelessness, housing difficulties or multiple and complex needs
.

You should have:

  • Experience working in housing, homelessness, supported accommodation, family support or a related service.
  • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills.
  • Experience working with individuals who may be hard to reach or reluctant to engage.
  • The ability to assess needs, identify priorities and develop effective support plans.
  • Experience working collaboratively with partner agencies.
  • A proactive, resilient and solution-focused approach.
  • Good knowledge of housing, tenancy sustainment and/or homelessness support.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
