Platform Development Engineer role within a leading global automotive engineering organisation s digital product and connected vehicle software division, working on next-generation software-defined vehicle platforms and premium in-car digital experiences.

Currently seeking to recruit a Platform Development Engineer for our high-tech Software Development centre in the heart of Manchester. Working alongside our Pioneering Hub to integrate connected technologies in our next generation vehicles to create premium, in car experiences.

The Centre is home to Software, IT and Engineering teams and is focused on developing mobile apps and our data analytics capabilities in a culture that is open and innovative.

• Proven experience (ideally 4+ years) in Unix OS and ideally recent experience in container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc) and a scripting language (e.g. Python, Bash)
• Proven experience (ideally 4+ years) of at least one major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, Azure) and Kubernetes experience
• Strong experience of Site Reliability Engineering practices and principles
• Strong experience in operational monitoring and dash-boarding for applications (ELK, Sonar Qube, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience with containers and orchestration frameworks (Docker, k8s)
• Experience with source code management and version control (Git/Git Hub/Git Lab)
• Experience with modern CI/CD tools and techniques
• Previous involvement in all stages of the software delivery lifecycle
• Passion for mentoring and technical coaching of engineers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Collaborative skills - being open to pair programming and working closely with engineers in cross functional teams
• Infrastructure provisioning tools e.g. Terraform, Ansible
• Good automation skills, including experience with unit testing and automated testing tools
• Experience of operating enterprise scale production systems alongside monitoring and telemetry practices (Sonar Qube, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, technologies, and protocols (TCP/IP, IPSec, HTTP, FTP, DHCP, and DNS)

• Experience of Software Engineering with Go, Java, JavaScript or another language
• Knowledge of Microservices architectures, RESTful APIs and message queues
• Experience operating bespoke built enterprise scale cloud-native microservice applications
• Experience with database technologies such as MySQL or No
