Principal Software Engineer

Full time, permanent – Onsite (hybrid working pattern)

Location:

Manchester, Lancashire (optionally Gloucester)

Your role will focus on technical work or a mixture of technical and people‑management responsibilities, guiding and developing junior team members. You will be part of a cross‑functional software development team, delivering and deploying critical software across a variety of business areas.

All candidates must hold SC clearance and be eligible and willing to obtain eDV clearance.

• Design and build software using industry best practice
• Collaborate with stakeholders and other engineers
• Contribute to the completion of milestones associated with your project
• Contribute to continuous improvement within your team
• Collaborate with peers on technical direction within your team

• Full‑stack experience across JavaScript frameworks (React, NextJS), Type Script, Python, Java
• REST API development & OpenAPI / Swagger
• Cloud services (AWS or Azure)
• Containerisation & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Open Shift)
• Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible)
• Relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL)
• Elasticsearch / Open Search
• Unit testing / automation and use of testing frameworks (e.g. Mocha, Jest, Cypress)
