Role Overview

We are seeking a pragmatic and detail‑oriented Game
Mechanic Engineer to join our team in Manchester, UK. You will play a key role in translating Game Design Documents (GDDs) into testable rules and constraints
, and in building and maintaining the tooling and automation that generates validation artefacts (such as error lists, example scenarios, and datasets) for our interactive iLottery products.

This role sits at the intersection of game design intent

. You will work closely with Game Designers, SMEs, QA, and Engineers to ensure mechanics are consistently interpreted, testable, and auditable.

If you enjoy turning complex rule systems into robust tooling and high‑confidence validation outcomes, we want to hear from you.

Responsabilities
  • Interpret Game Design Documents (GDDs) and translate design intent into clear, testable rules and constraints.
  • Create and maintain validation artefacts such as error lists, example scenarios (valid/invalid), and supporting datasets.
  • Provision mechanics for operators, including prize structures and configuration parameters, ensuring they meet customer requirements and are set up correctly and consistently.
  • Build and enhance internal mechanic validation tooling, primarily in Delphi, with supporting components in JavaScript / Node.js.
  • Maintain and improve automation and CI pipelines (Jenkins/Groovy, Node.js) used to generate and validate mechanic artefacts.
  • Collaborate closely with Game Designers, SMEs, QA, and Engineers to clarify rules, resolve ambiguities, and ensure consistent interpretation.
  • Ensure validation outputs are accurate, deterministic, traceable, and audit‑friendly.
  • Contribute ideas for using AI‑assisted tooling to reduce manual effort in validation and audit preparation (human‑in‑the‑loop).
Qualifications
  • Relevant work experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of object‑oriented programming concepts and software engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience working with structured data formats (e.g. Excel, CSV, JSON).
  • Comfortable working in a mixed codebase and learning existing systems quickly.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • A logical, methodical approach to problem‑solving with strong attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Delphi, or strong fundamentals in another language with the ability to ramp up quickly.
  • Experience with JavaScript / Type Script, including Node.js.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins, Groovy, and CI/CD automation.
  • Experience with build and dependency tooling (e.g. Yarn, NPM).
