The Role

The successful applicant will aspire to support a world-class Athletic Development service to the Youth Development Phase playing staff of Manchester United Academy players and be a developer of young people through their actions and values, contributing across the Academy.

We are looking for the right person who can support players in making the connection between a strong and robust body with their performance on the pitch. Through understanding their unique physical profile, and the needs at their current age and stage, the successful person will have experience in understanding and delivering a Return to Train and Play framework working collaboratively with Medical staff to create an age and stage appropriate programme that motivates, educates and develops each player’s overall athleticism to maximise their availability.

The appointed person will be instrumental in developing and administering evidence-based systems to create world leading systems and processes aimed at developing players who are durable, resistant to injury and possess a level of physicality that enables them to execute the technical and tactical skills required to support an effective transition to senior football.

This role will involve working closely with the Youth Development Phase Athletic Development Lead to play a supportive role in the delivery of the Foundation and Youth Development Phase Athletic Development Programmes. The successful individual will be enthusiastic, proactive and a self-motivated developer of young people, through their behaviours, actions and values.

  • Support the implementation of the Athletic Development strategy to improve physical performance throughout the Youth Development phase.
  • Deliver and support individual and group based athletic development sessions within the gym.
  • Deliver and support age-appropriate on-field athletic development sessions.
  • Support the monitoring, profiling and benchmarking of all academy players.
  • Undertake matchday athletic development support.
  • Deliver athletic development sessions to support the integrated return to play process.
  • Have experience with the use technology (e.g., VALD, Stat Sports) to support the return to play process.
  • Ensure that every individual player is treated as a unique individual and is afforded the highest level of developmental care and attention.
The Person Essential
  • Hold a BSc in a relevant Undergraduate Degree (e.g. Sports Science or Strength & Conditioning)
  • Possess or working towards UKSCA and or BASES Accreditation.
  • FA Level 2 in Coaching Football or other sports.
  • Current and up to date First Aid Qualification.
  • A positive mindset and outlook within the demands of working in a high-performance environment.
  • FA Safeguarding Qualification
  • Full DBS/Enhanced Disclosure check
  • Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) or equivalent/ higher qualification
  • Demonstratable commitment to lifelong learning and personal development via a detailed CPD portfolio.
  • A desire to strive for excellence, to innovate and inspire others.
  • Consistently deliver the highest standards of professionalism and care for young player.
  • Competence and positive attitude towards the use and incorporation of information technology (IT).
Desirable
  • Hold an MSc in a relevant Postgraduate Degree (e.g. Sports Science or Strength & Conditioning)
  • Possess or working towards UKSCA and or BASES Accreditation.
  • FA Level 2 in Coaching Football or other sports.
