At Manchester Metropolitan University, we take pride in creating welcoming, vibrant environments where our staff can thrive. This is a great opportunity to join our dedicated MMU Sport team, helping us deliver outstanding experiences for students, staff and community members. If you're someone who enjoys being active, working with people and contributing to a high‑performing team, this could be the perfect next step.

About the Role:

As an Operations Assistant, you'll play a key role in the day‑to‑day running of Platt Lane Sports Complex. You'll support smooth operations across reception, sports facilities and customer service. You'll help ensure the centre is safe, welcoming and ready for use, contributing directly to the experience of all our users.

You will:
  • Support the setup, takedown and preparation of indoor and outdoor facilities
  • Monitor access to the centre and assist customers at reception
  • Use our Leisure Management System to manage bookings and memberships
  • Maintain equipment, undertake regular checks and ensure spaces remain clean and safe
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures
  • Provide friendly, helpful customer service to all users
  • Work flexibly as part of a rolling rota including evenings and weekends

Further information about the role can be found in the attached Job Description below.

About You:

You'll be someone who brings enthusiasm, reliability and a strong focus on customer service. You enjoy working in a hands‑on role and being part of a team that makes a real difference to people's experience of sport and physical activity on campus.

We're looking for:
  • Strong organisational and communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people
  • The capability to carry out physical tasks such as lifting, carrying and equipment setup
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • An understanding of good customer care, safe working practices and working in diverse environments

Prior experience of working in a sport centre environment is desirable, but not essential to be considered for the role. Full training, including first aid and manual handling, will be provided.

Why join our team?

You'll join a supportive team within Academic Services and benefit from Manchester Met's commitment to wellbeing, development and work‑life balance. Alongside a competitive package and access to excellent campus facilities, there will be opportunities for training and progression within Facilities and MMU Sport.
