Finance Manager
Full-Charge Bookkeeping & Financial Operations
Reports to:
Owner | Full-time | On-site, Manchester, VT | $70, per year, based on experience, plus benefits
We run a group of owner-led trade and service businesses (painting, chimney services and promotional products), and the numbers need an owner of their own. You'll keep the books clean across several entities and tell leadership what those numbers mean. There is no controller above you (it is a path for you to grow into).. You'll work directly with ownership and have real say in how we manage money as we grow.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Run the books. Keep QB ledgers for each company, process AP and AR, reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly, maintain the chart of accounts, and file sales, use and local taxes.
- Handle payroll. Run or review payroll with our third-party provider and make sure it ties to the books.
- Report on a steady schedule. Produce monthly P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements, budget-vs-actual by business unit with variance commentary, and a simple dashboard (cash on hand, gross margin, A/R aging). Top management meets weekly with your input, too.
- Know what each project earns. Build job costing and profitability reports for our project-based divisions so we can see which work makes money.
- Watch the cash. Monitor daily cash, forecast short-term needs, flag shortfalls early, and recommend moves between accounts.
- Stay audit-ready. Prepare quarterly and year-end packages for our CPA, keep records ready for audits or grant reporting, and uphold internal controls.
- Improve how we work. Tighten our processes and tools (Quick Books, , Gusto) and manage our relationships with the CPA, payroll provider, banks and vendors.
- Advise the owner. Supply the data behind decisions on pricing, expense trends and ROI, and help assemble financial information for financing or investor conversations.
- 5+ years of full-charge bookkeeping, ideally in multi-entity or service businesses.
- Solid command of accrual accounting and GAAP.
- Strong Quick Books (Online or Desktop) and Excel skills; comfortable with and Gusto or similar.
- Job costing experience in construction, trades or services (preferred).
- Meticulous and proactive, and you can explain findings plainly to people who aren’t finance experts.
- Independent, well organized, trustworthy, and discreet with sensitive information.
- Wide scope and direct access to ownership, with the independence to build the finance function the right way.
- A defined path to a Controller-level role, with mentorship and support.
- Benefits: 100% employer-paid health insurance for the employee (MVP Silver Level), a SIMPLE IRA with company match, paid time off, sick time and paid holidays.
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants of all backgrounds.
