A growing manufacturer of custom automated equipment is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Automation) to design, develop, and support custom machinery and automation systems from concept through final build.
This is a hands‑on engineering opportunity for someone who enjoys machine design, mechanical problem‑solving, and seeing their designs come to life on the shop floor. You'll work closely with electrical engineers, controls engineers, technicians, vendors, and operations to develop customized equipment involving robotics, pneumatics, motion systems, sensors, actuators, and mechanical assemblies.
Why join us- Design custom automated machinery from the ground up, rather than maintaining the same equipment every day.
- Take projects from concept and 3D design through fabrication, assembly, testing, and startup.
- Work hands‑on with robotics, pneumatics, motion systems, sensors, actuators, and automation technology.
- See your designs physically built and operating on the manufacturing floor.
- Solve unique engineering challenges in a custom machine‑building environment.
- Collaborate directly with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and technical teams.
- Receive a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, paid time off, life and disability insurance, and EAP benefits.
- Design custom automated machinery, mechanical systems, assemblies, components, tooling, and safety guarding.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using Solid Works or similar CAD software.
- Develop mechanical solutions incorporating pneumatics, actuators, sensors, motion systems, and mechanical drive components.
- Work closely with electrical and controls engineers to integrate mechanical and automation systems.
- Perform engineering calculations including stress, load, tolerance, and component sizing analysis.
- Support prototype builds, machine assembly, testing, debugging, and system validation.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform root‑cause analysis to improve equipment reliability and performance. - Participate in machine startup and commissioning as required.
- Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, operations, and safety throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Support continuous improvement of existing equipment and machine designs.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Approximately 2 to 5+ years of hands‑on experience in machine design, industrial automation, custom equipment, or manufacturing.
- Strong proficiency with 3D CAD, preferably Solid Works.
- Experience designing mechanical assemblies and custom machine components.
- Understanding of pneumatic systems, mechanical drive systems, actuators, sensors, and motion components.
- Exposure to PLCs, controls logic, robotics, or automated equipment is highly desirable.
- Ability to take a mechanical design from concept through fabrication, assembly, testing, and implementation.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, hands‑on engineering and manufacturing environment.
