Job SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long-term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and applies age- and population-specific standards related to the resident’s physical and psychosocial needs as per the care plan.
Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident s status and provides the required care. Recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively in emergent situations.
Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents. Contributes to the assessment of residents and administers medications or treatments as ordered. Provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed. Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary. Maintains effective working relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public. Works as a member of an interdisciplinary care team and communicates clearly while maintaining confidentiality.
Counsels residents, family members, and/or resident advocates on prevention and treatment plans. Applies knowledge of resident education principles to develop a self-care program. Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Provide professional nursing care for residents in long-term care under supervision.
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered and document outcomes.
- Assist with assessments and support the care plan implementation.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team and communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional and resident privacy standards.
- Participate in ongoing education and competency requirements.
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse;
Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred. - If IV therapy/management is required, meet North Dakota requirements (AASPN program with IV therapy or ND Board-approved IV course).
- Current unencumbered LPN license in North Dakota or multi-state licensure privileges; maintain department competencies and required CEUs.
- Minimum clinical experience as required by the role; specific positions may have additional education or experience requirements.
