Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Tasks include capturing vital signs, assisting with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, repositioning, and walking, as well as providing psychosocial support and performing basic health‑care activities.

The NA also assists with food preparation, dining, and housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean environment. It is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use, and to document resident interactions and behaviors accurately.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED preferred (not required).
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of employment. Training and certification is provided by the facility.
  • Completion of yearly competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits (12 hours annually).
  • Certification with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry if applicable to the state.
  • When required, the role may be classified as a Sanford Category II Driver, requiring a valid driver’s license and medical clearance to drive.
