Overview

Beach Cities Learning/Learn Academy is looking for a Substitute Teacher for our location in Manhattan Beach, CA. The rate is $29.28 per hour. Beach Cities Learning (), part of Learn Systems (), is a certified K–12 private day school approved by the California Department of Education to provide special education services for students with various disability categories including Autism, Emotional Disability, Mild Intellectual Disability, Moderate Intellectual Disability, Other Health Impaired, Specific Learning Disability, and Speech‑Language Impairment.

The school uses a highly‑structured, school‑wide Positive Behavioral Supports program that teaches academic, social‑emotional problem‑solving, and strategies. Teachers work in a tight‑knit team that values collaboration, integrity, and a passion to help students who struggle to be successful and to support families.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the school schedule and work variable days/hours.
  • Collaborate and be open to feedback, mentoring, and direction from peers and supervisors.
  • Maintain a professional and clinical perspective at all times, not internalizing or personalizing student behaviors.
  • Safely and effectively use crisis management interventions, including therapeutic holds, for all involved.
  • Assist students with emotional and behavioral needs by providing therapeutic interventions, de‑escalation, pre‑crisis and post‑crisis interventions, and instruction when a regular educator is unavailable.
  • Support teachers with classroom management, behavior documentation and reporting, and implementation of social/emotional/behavioral interventions; participate in teaching and instruction.
  • Teach curriculum, manage classroom, and maintain student records if needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Active and valid substitute or other education teaching certificate issued by the California State Department of Education.
  • Experience working with emotional and/or behaviorally challenged students preferred.
  • PCMA certification is a plus but not required.
