We are seeking a highly motivated Principal/Senior Principal Systems Engineer with experience in MBSE to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA. The role supports the development and maturation of Ground System designs and architecture in the CAMEO model as the program progresses. The selected candidate will contribute to the refinement of the system’s technical baseline by mapping requirements to models, updating system design artifacts, and verifying compliance with customer requirements using industry-standard tools and processes.
This position is contingent upon successful capture of program award(s), acquisition and retention of customer or business funding, and holding of final security clearances prior to start date.
- Support the maturation of the Ground System design and architecture to meet the system requirements.
- Develop and maintain system models in CAMEO, ensuring requirements are mapped, aligned, and traceable to architecture and design.
- Update and finalize Internal Block Diagrams (IBDs), Activity Diagrams, and other critical system design artifacts.
- Interface closely with Requirements Management and Engineering teams to ensure verification planning and execution aligns with customer requirements.
- Support requirements sell-off and provide technical input to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Engage in architecture design reviews and contribute to technical problem‑solving efforts to mitigate risks and resolve issues.
- Level 3 Systems Engineer: 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science in a STEM degree; 3 years with a Master’s; 1 year with a PhD.
- Level 4 Systems Engineer: 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science in a STEM degree; 6 years with a Master’s; 4 years with a PhD.
- Active SSBI required at the time of application with the ability to obtain SCI prior to start.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes.
- Demonstrated experience in CAMEO or other Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and languages (SysML, UML) for architecture design, including modeling diagrams (IBD, BDD, activity diagrams, etc.).
- Experience with requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation.
- Experience interpreting and mapping requirements into implementable models and configurations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate and contribute to technical discussions with team members, cross‑organizational teams, and management.
- Experience with Ground and Space systems and/or Command and Control systems.
- Experience with requirements verification, including knowledge of verification planning and artifact development.
- Experience with interface engineering, including development of ICDs.
- Experience with Agile development.
- Experience working with Software teams.
Primary Level Salary Range: $ – $
Secondary Level Salary Range: $ – $ The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
