Dental Hygienist, Irwin AMC Ft Riley, KS. This position is located at Fort Riley, Kansas. Multiple vacancies exist and may be filled from this announcement at any of the locations listed. ResponsibilitiesMAJOR DUTIES
- Perform complete and advanced oral prophylaxis on ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.
- Perform deep scaling, root planing, and sub-gingival curettage under local anesthesia.
- Complete preliminary dental examinations.
- Interpret routine x-rays to identify tooth structures, calculus, and abnormalities.
- Instruct patients at chair-side in oral hygiene, brushing, flossing techniques, and periodontal techniques.
- Make repairs and adjustments to teeth by smoothing rough edges, removing overhanging margins, reducing sharp edges, and inserting temporary fillings.
Additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsBasic Requirements:

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If qualifying based on education, transcripts are required.
Licensure: Must be currently licensed to practice as a dental hygienist in a State/territory of the United States or DC.
Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Requirements include: educational program meeting standards and accreditation, and being certified as radiographers. Acceptable pathways include prior federal radiologic personnel experience or approved training/qualification as described.
Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, you must describe at least one year of experience performing prophylactic dental procedures, completing oral examinations, and performing or interpreting routine x-rays. This is typical for GS-06 level. Some federal jobs allow substitution of education for experience, but for this job substitution is not permitted; experience must be used to qualify.
