Assistant Professor – Special Education

About This RoleThe Department of Special Education is inviting applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Special Education. This position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to provide programmatic leadership and innovative collaboration with award‑winning colleagues and students in a Research I university.
Key Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in special education in in‑person, online, and blended modalities.
- Advise graduate students and support their professional development.
- Conduct research and creative scholarship, seeking external funding and disseminating results through publications and presentations.
- Provide service to the university and the Department, including governance participation.
- Engage with state and national professional special education organizations.
- Earned doctorate in special education or a closely related field (ABD considered).
- Expertise in high‑incidence (mild‑moderate) special education.
- Professional experience in special education.
- Potential for excellence in instruction and advising on‑campus and online.
- Potential for scholarly activity resulting in professional publications and presentations.
- Ability to implement and integrate instructional technology within a learning management system.
- Experience supporting K‑12 students with disabilities.
- Commitment to collaborative work in group settings.
- Membership and involvement in professional special education organizations.
- Expertise in low‑incidence (moderate‑severe) special education.
- Record of excellence in instruction and advising, both on‑campus and online.
- Record of scholarly activity resulting in professional publications and presentations in special education.
- Knowledge of and experience with accreditation and student learning assessment.
- Leadership in professional special education organizations.
- Evidence of external funding or strong potential to secure research support.
The position is on‑site at Kansas State University. All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. Remote or hybrid work opportunities are not available for Idaho residents.
