Family and Consumer Science Teacher
- Manhattan High School:  School Year

We are looking for a Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher with a wide range of instructional skills and experience in the areas of child development, culinary arts, financial management, and design.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Kansas Teaching License.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Certified with a secondary endorsement.
  • All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the CTE coordinator and other CTE instructors to help promote Career and Technical Education and continue to build and update state approved pathways to include maintaining and collecting student data, holding and attending advisory committee meetings, and assisting with career technical student organization.
  • Develop and deliver lessons aligned with state standards in personal finance, economics, and consumer education.
  • Evaluates student progress on a continued basis and reports at designated times to provide meaningful feedback to support growth.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Teach topicswithin the content area.
  • Use practical, hands-on activities to help students apply financial concepts to everyday life.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitation of location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individual of student groups involved.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and bevavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Guides students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Teaches all students from a culturally inclusive perspective and establishes an expectation that classroom language and behaviors value differences.
  • Work collaboratively with industry representatives to ensure that current skills and techniques are integrated into classroom and lab instruction.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative guidelines.
  • Complete required duties to maintain state approved CTE pathways, including advisory committee meetings, student data, pathway maintenance, and inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

ABOUT MANHATTAN HIGH SCHOOL: Manhattan High School is a 9th through 12th grade high school. The estimated enrollment for the  school year is 2,050 students. School begins at 7:40 a.m. and releases at 2:50 p.m. Teachers teach 5 of 7 class periods with an additional Advisory period one day a week. The 2 open periods in a teacher's schedule are dedicated to an hour of planning and an hour dedicated to professional learning time.

MHS utilizes a modified block schedule that consists of periods 1-7 being taught Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Wednesday and Thursday are block schedule days.
