All paraprofessionals are at-will employees of USD #368 throught East Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative (ECKSEC) and will work and operate in USD #367 buildings under #367 administration.

Assigned Teacher/Principal/Director of Special Education

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

NoneTERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
At-will

OBJECTIVE:
To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom, interrelated resource rooms or in a self-contained classroom. This would include implementing instructional plans, monitoring student behavior, providing information to appropriate school personnel, and performing classroom clerical tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Regular and predictive attendance in accordance with assigned work schedule;
  • Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and good judgment;
  • Assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students;
  • Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual educational needs of students;
  • Ensure all activities conform to district guidelines;
  • Assist, as needed, with critical daily activities, such as classroom transition times, mealtimes, and toileting for the purpose of allowing students to function in the school environment;
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community;
  • Meet the Kansas requirement for annual inservice hours, complete documentation, and submit to the Coop office by required deadline;
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. CPR, education strategies, specific disability education, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions to meet established annual State requirements;
  • React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned;
  • Utilize appropriate language, interactions and positive discipline;
  • Model positive behavior;
  • Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the District;
  • Continuously monitor children to ensure safety at all times, and report child abuse and neglect; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Capable of physically assisting students with specials needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time;
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment;
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel and reach on a regular basis.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work well with children with disabilities;
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
  • Ability to operate all classroom equipment appropriately, as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Basic knowledge of technology and ability to apply knowledge to assigned area of responsibilities; and
  • Desire to assist students with special needs in a learning environment;
  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Required to work in a variety of school settings and must be willing to adjust work strategies to accommodate school limitations.
