About the agency: the administration for children's services (acs) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. Acs manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. Acs child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, acs oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.
About the division: the division of administration provides a wide range of support services throughout acs to ensure all divisions receive adequate and efficient support to carry out their missions. The division of administration (admin) employs approximately 463 public employees. Admin manages a personnel services (ps) budget of approximately $29m and an other than personnel services (otps) budget of $140m. Services include real estate, facilities and custodial management, construction, occupational safety, operations, security, transportation, and more.
About the office: the office of planning, design & facilities management (pd+fm) ensures safe, functional, and modern environments across over 43 administrative offices and facilities throughout nyc. The team leads all design, construction, and space planning efforts, including capital and expense projects.
What you'll do: the deputy executive director plays a critical operational leadership role in managing day-to-day space planning and design activities across acs's portfolio. The deputy directly supervises a team of architects, planners, and analysts, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of high-quality, code-compliant design solutions.
Key responsibilities:
* supervise architects, space planners, and design analysts executing acs space planning projects.
* oversee in-house development of design layouts, dob filing documents, and bid packages.
* translate programmatic needs into technical design solutions aligned with agency standards.
* conduct site surveys, field verifications, and constructability reviews to inform design.
* review construction documents, building code compliance, and material specifications.
* manage project progress, maintain dashboards, and monitor staff performance.
* collaborate with the executive director to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

Administrative architect - 10004
Minimum qualifications
A valid new york state registration as an architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six ( 6 ) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative architect.
Preferred skills
* at least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in architectural design, space planning, and project delivery, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.
- strong leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring technical staff.
- expertise in reviewing and producing design specifications, bid packages, and filing sets.
- knowledge of nyc building codes, ada regulations, and dob filing/expediting procedures.
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-divisional collaboration.
