Overview

Speech Therapist Float - outpatient and acute care - Manitowoc/Marinette

Base pay range: $37.50/hr - $56.25/hr

Responsibilities
  • Interprets physician referrals and conducts a speech and language evaluation of patients with various speech, language, voice, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
  • Establishes a written plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results and functional goals; monitors and evaluates outcomes and adjusts the treatment plan as needed; provides status updates to physicians and team members.
  • Identifies factors affecting patient comfort and attends to those needs; plans for and completes patient discharge, including home programs, patient/family teaching, referrals for community services, transition planning, and equipment ordering as indicated.
  • Communicates and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to achieve optimum patient care; completes required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards (evaluations, progress notes, team reports, discharge summaries); records patient care and progress; completes daily statistics, billing and scheduling; applies insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits.
  • Maintains site/department productivity standards and adheres to billing and documentation policies, procedures, and timelines.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly treatment area; performs manual techniques, patient positioning and transporting duties with proper technique; demonstrates knowledge of modalities and safety/infection control measures.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities; manages caseload and coordinates coverage with site leadership; assists with coverage based on department and regional needs.
  • Engages in professional growth through continuing education, department in-services, and reading professional literature; orients new staff and participates in coworker evaluations as requested.
  • May supervise non-licensed personnel in accordance with state and local requirements; supports student clinical education by supervising at least one student per year when available.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Education:
    Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited school or equivalent; maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by state standards.
  • Certification / Registration / License:
    Licensed Speech Language Pathologist in the state of work. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (AHA) or as determined by department;
    Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA or Clinical Fellowship Year eligible.
  • Work Experience:
    No experience required.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
    Intermediate computer skills; excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities; ability to complete competency assessments; familiarity with hospital-based certifications; ability to provide age-appropriate care; understanding of growth and development across the lifespan; ability to interpret patient data relevant to age-specific needs.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; lift up to 10 lbs from waist to overhead; lift and carry up to 40 lbs at waist height over a distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force; perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with assistance.
  • Repetitive use of hands: simple grasping 5-15 lbs (20% of the workday); pushing/pulling up to 75-100 lbs (10% of the day); fine manipulation during massage and joint mobilization.
  • Must have functional use of senses for effective communication; may be exposed to electrical/chemical hazards and blood/bodily fluids; may require protective clothing.
  • Position may require travel; exposure to road and weather hazards; operate all job-related equipment.
